Weekly Update February 24-28, 2020
Important information: On Friday, Bloomsburg University students will be helping NSE K-3 to remember Dr. Seuss. His birthday is March 2nd, and most schools in America celebrate this as “Read Across America Day.” We celebrate early this year due to the schedules of the university students and our school. The BU students will have an activity planned based on one of Dr. Seuss’s books that will engage our students. It’s always a great day! If your child does not have a beach towel in school, please consider sending one in for that day. We will have many “drop everything and read” moments infused throughout the day and it’s fun for the students to sprawl out on their towels and read! Also, if you have any Dr. Seuss books, please send them in with your child this week. As always, be sure to have your name inside due to duplications.

We are beginning a new story this week. There will be a new spelling list tonight. Continue to practice reading the H.F.W. lists each night. Check for leveled readers, these books are intended to give your child more practice on their current success level. Five minutes of reading usually will be all that they need. Contact me if you have any questions.

Looking for sound chunks while reading is great practice for the children. Preview the page before reading and have your child find words that have the chunks that you selected. Read the words, then read the story.

We are working on Fact Families sums to 9, in Spring Math. We are reviewing and assessing Unit 5 this week; flat and 3D figures, as well as fractions.

Monday (Day 6) Phys. Ed. Class; check the spelling and H.F.W note books

Tuesday (Day 7) Music class; read the H.F.W. lists, have your child read to you and have them retell 3 important facts about the story (what happened at the beginning, middle and end)

Wednesday (Day 8) Art class; read the H.F.W. lists, have your child read to you, name the characters, setting, was the story fiction, or non-fiction

Thursday (Day 1) Computer class; read to your child so they hear fluency and expression.

Friday (Day 2) Phys. Ed. class; practice reading over the weekend and practice sub. from 9 and their related facts.
*Please check the Friday Folder for important papers to keep; then sign and date the front sheet of the folder. Send the folder back to class the next school day.

I hope you have a wonderful week!
