No shadow!!! Early Spring, I’m on board!!!

Weekly Update February 3-7, 2020

Important information: The Valentine’s day Party will be on Thursday, February 13th. If you have your clearances and are a P.T.O member, you may come in to help with the party. Please send in a note, a dojo message, or call me to let me know if you can make it for the party.

We are not beginning a new story this week. There will not be a new spelling list tonight. Continue to practice reading the H.F.W. lists each night. Check for leveled readers, these books are intended to give your child more practice on their current success level. Five minutes of reading usually will be all that they need. Contact me if you have any questions.

Continue looking for sound chunks while reading. These are the most recent sounds: ur, ie (as long e and long i), and ph. Preview the page before reading and have your child find words that have the chunks that you selected. Read the words, then read the story.

The children have met the goal for Fact Families with sums to 5! We will now be working on Fact Families sums to 9. We are continuing Unit 5, Geometry. The children are doing fantastic with this concept so far! We have discussed flat figures, sides, and vertices. This week we will explore 3D figures and their attributes.

Monday (Day 2) Phys. Ed. class; Read the H.F.W. lists. (*The children will have to read the words from Book 2; lists 1 and 2, to me on Friday, for a grade.)

Tuesday (Day 3) Music class; read the H.F.W. lists, have your child read to you and have them retell 3 important facts about the story (what happened at the beginning, middle and end)

Wednesday (Day 4) Art class; read the H.F.W. lists, have your child read to you, name the characters, setting, was the story fiction, or non-fiction (not new terms, but now being used exclusively)

Thursday (Day 5) Library class; read to your child so they hear fluency and expression.

Friday (Day 6) Phys. Ed. class; Practice reading over the weekend and practice sub. from 9 and their related facts.
*Please check the Friday Folder for important papers to keep; then sign and date the front sheet of the folder. Send the folder back to class the next school day.

I hope you have a wonderful week!
