Weekly Update January 27-31, 2020
Important information: Please be sure to return the signed envelope for your child’s report card as soon as possible.
The 100th day of school will be on Thursday. First graders do NOT dress up, that’s only for kindergarten. We will do activities throughout the day that relate to reading and math.
Look in the Friday Folder for the Valentine class list. If you choose to have your child participate, they need to have a Valentine for each student in the class. If you are unable to get Valentines, please let me know, so I can help.

We are beginning a new story this week. There will be a new spelling list tonight. Continue to practice reading the H.F.W. lists each night. Check for leveled readers, these books are intended to give your child more practice on their current success level. Five minutes of reading usually will be all that they need. Contact me if you have any questions.

Continue looking for sound chunks while reading. These are the new sounds for this week ur, ie (as long e), and ph. Preview the page before reading and have your child find words that have the chunks that you selected. Read the words, then read the story.

The children are working on Fact Families with sums to 5. We are beginning Unit 5, Geometry. This is always a popular math unit. We will learn about flat shapes, 3D figures, lines, vertices, open and closed shapes.

Monday (Day 5) Computer class; Check for spelling corrections to write, and read the H.F.W. lists.

Tuesday (Day 6) Phys. Ed. class; read the H.F.W. lists, have your child read to you and have them retell 3 important facts about the story (what happened at the beginning, middle and end)

Wednesday (Day 7) Music class; read the H.F.W. lists, have your child read to you, name the characters, setting (where the story mostly takes place), was the story real, made-up but could happen, or make believe.

Thursday (Day 8) Art class; read to your child so they hear fluency and expression.

Friday (Day 1) Library class; Practice reading over the weekend and practice sub. from 5 and their related facts.
*Please check the Friday Folder for important papers to keep; then sign and date the front sheet of the folder. Send the folder back to class the next school day.

I hope your week is Awesome!
