Weekly Update January 6-10, 2020
Important information: This week is a review of past skills and assessment week. We will have a phonics review test on Wednesday and a math quiz on ordering numbers from least to greatest. There will be Dibels Testing on Thursday and a comprehension test in reading. This will be the first test that your child is reading the passage for the assessment. I will still be reading the directions and questions, but that will be changing next month.

We are not beginning a new text book story this week, so there will not be a new spelling list tonight. Continue to practice reading the H.F.W. lists each night. (Blue notebook) Also, there may be some leveled reading books coming home for extra practice with your child. These books are intended to give your child more practice on their current success level. Five minutes of reading usually will be all that they need. Contact me if you have any questions.

We have been learning these sound chunks; so, to make reading more interesting, pick out 3 to find in the story that they read to you each night. ee, ea, sh, ch, th, ck, ng, oo, ow, oa, ai, ay, or, er, y, a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e, *newly added oi, oy. Preview the page before reading and have your child find words that have the chunks that you selected. Read the words, then read the story.

We are continuing to work on subtraction in spring math. We are also working on ordering numbers from least to greatest, greater than and less than signs and grouping numbers into tens and ones.

Monday (Day 7) Music class; Read the word lists in the blue notebook. They should be reading these words without hesitation by now. Any words that are not known on sight, need to be practiced on flash cards. Please tell me if you need them and I will supply them for you.

Tuesday (Day 8) Art class; read the H.F.W., have your child read to you and have them retell 3 important facts about the story (what happened at the beginning, middle and end)

Wednesday (Day 1) Library class; read the H.F.W., have your child read to you, name the characters, setting (where the story mostly takes place), was the story real, made-up but could happen, or make believe.

Thursday (Day 2) Phys. Ed. class; read to your child so they hear fluency and expression.

Friday (Day 3) Music class; Practice reading over the weekend and practice sub. from 9
*Please check the Friday Folder for important papers to keep; then sign and date the front sheet of the folder. Send the folder back to class the next school day.

I hope you have a fantastic week!
